@ItsJustCurtis Good discussion. We should bring this to the forums. For now let's agree to disagree. I'll state my logic one last time. First we need to make the distinction between the verb "to replace" and the noun "replace mod". I agree with everyone here who says this mod replaces something. But let's do the math. If I have car1.yft in the game folder and car1.yft in the mods folder and I install this mod with car1.yft, then I have added one more version of car1.yft, regardless of the fact that it will replace both the others. So here again we have the verb add and in this case addon fits the bill, it adds, it doesn't subtract. We had 2 cars, we we now have 3 even if the 3rd one replaces (verb) the other 2.
Tell me, when you buy a new car in real life and you sell the old one. You now have 1 car right? Not 2? That's because you replaced it.
My definition of addon, and I'm sticking to it, is that an addon is in a dlc.rpf and has an entry in dlclist.xml. That's as simple as the concept gets. Replace mods don't come in dlc.rpf archives.
Now let's see how your logic holds up. RCA, Real California Architecture, widely accepted as an addon should be identified as a replacement? Because that's exactly what it does. Same for LA Revo, these are replace mods because they replace signs etc. Any MLO or Map that replaces the original is no longer an addon, they are now replace mods. Extending this, Liberty City isn't an addon because it replaces the ocean? Yeah, I know I'm stretching to make a point.
Ok, sure i'm pushing my point here, but the key is replace as a verb versus replace as a noun. Yes, this mod replaces but by definition it is an addon because of the way it is packaged and also the way it is installed. The benefit of this mods for noobs is that they don't need to worry about the replace process which can be complicated for someone new or with ADHD. The replacement mod installation involves navigating through files and folders, it can result in errors. By comparison, addons are just dumped in dlcpacks and entry is made in dlclist.xml. This is why this is an addon.
The author got it right. That's why the tags clearly say addon. Check the tags by hovering your mouse over it.
You're right, and the others are right, this mod replaces stuff, but I still consider it an addon because of its package and installation and the fact that unless the other entities are deleted, it adds one more.
Enjoy your definition, I'll stick with mine.
@JohnFromGWN what??? in what world does this mod's replace method take up more space than the outdated replace method? imagine you've never installed replace mods (using that archaic out of date method) before. you would have to copy x64e.rpf (1.96gb) into the mods folder to replace vehicles. then copy x64i.rpf (1.66gb) to replace the modifications models. that's already 3.63gb of unnecessary copying to replace 315mb worth of files. oh, and that's not even counting the patchday packs which also contain some vehicles that already override the original ones, that would increase the file size even more. you are literally wasting gigabytes of disk space for that awful replace method. and sure, you could just add everything into the latest patchday pack by rockstar but.... by your definition that would also be an addon, so.
@WildBrick142 First I rarely do replaces because I prefer real brands. Secondly there's a magic tool called OpenIV that allows you to take replaces and put them all in one patch folder. I never duplicate x64n.rpf files unless absolutely necessary. The file size is at the minimum because only the replaces are installed, in fact you can also delete files inside rpfs in the mods folder. To clarify again I already said this addon mod that replaces is better and simpler than the replace method. And just for your knowledge, OpenIV loads entities by priority so you take the latest patch, delete anything unnecessary and dump all your replaces, zero wasted space. Have a great day.
@WildBrick142 oh, and to avoid more confusion, when I wrote x64n, I meant x64a to x64w. If you want to discuss this further I'm always on the forums trying my best to help users. Do you ever help others?
I'm rating this a 5 star. it drastically improves the visual fidelity of the older cars in comparison to the newer dlc cars. Older cars no longer look weird. But, one question though, will you be doing the kuruma and kuruma2? While they don't spawn on roads without mods, they too are older dlc vehicles that suffer from this shading issue.
@JohnFromGWN ["there's a magic tool called OpenIV that allows you to take replaces and put them all in one patch folder"]
...which is pretty much the equivalent of what this mod does. so what's the problem?
["The file size is at the minimum because only the replaces are installed"]
as is also the case with this mod.
["To clarify again I already said this addon mod that replaces is better and simpler than the replace method."]
and don't get me wrong, i wasn't trying to argue that. i was only correcting the misinformation that "this mod actually uses more disk space unless you manually delete the cars it replaces" because it really doesn't take up more space.
["And just for your knowledge, OpenIV loads entities by priority so you take the latest patch"]
my knowledge is perfectly fine, thanks. and it's not openiv that loads entities, it's the game that does it using the dlclist.xml to tell it which packs should be loaded, and the order value specified in a (dlc) pack's setup2.xml file to determine the load priority it loads in. openiv is just the file explorer for the game files, and an .asi file that just re-routes the game's file mounter through the mods folder.
["If you want to discuss this further I'm always on the forums trying my best to help users. Do you ever help others?"]
pretty sure there isn't much else left to discuss here, but if you have any questions then sure feel free to make a thread and @ me. and as a matter of fact yes i do help others, when i can. just remember that there is an entire world outside of the 5mods forums, i might not be spending every day of my life posting there but there are still plenty of discord servers and other online communities that i've been actively involved in in the last 7 years.
@Banoub Eventually, but cars that don't appear in story mode aren't a priority right now.
Amazing job, do you plan tu update the texture file of the Adder's motor ?
does this mod affect fps in any kind of way ??
Oh man I wish @austen64 would fix the old VD90R mod up, that would be pure perfection.
Awesome, really brings the cars up to date. Could Sadler have the side steps as extra though, please? If there isn't space for more extras, maybe merge them together with the rollbar...
The stanier seems to be completely broken. Low Quality model + you can drive through it sometimes.
@Trollfur849 Thanks for pointing that out, just uploaded a hotfix.
i don't see a difference in these cars in the thumbnails am i stupid?
@ex4mple694201337 Yes lol looking at the reflections in the paint
Nice mod but I noticed that the Habanero's rear lights and front lower right grille are deformed.
@austen64 A fix you should add next month should be a rear plate for both the Rebel and rusty variant, since they only have a front plate.
@austen64 Is there a way I can get this pack not to overwrite any replace-addon and replace vehicles? I've already tried putting <Item>dlcpacks:/qolpack/</Item> before any other pack but it still overwrote some vehicles.
@JRod Change the load order in setup2.xml to a number lower than those of the other mods.
@austen64 Thanks.
The minivans wheel disc turns white when getting close to the vehicle, it's noticeable.
